Tammy Duckworth for Congress

Super PAC Funded by Swift Boat Donor Launches Attack Against Duckworth

A Super PAC called New Prosperity Foundation began airing television ads today in Illinois’ 8th district attacking Iraq War Veteran and congressional candidate Tammy Duckworth. This is one of the largest Super PAC expenditures to date against a Democrat in Illinois.

New Prosperity Foundation’s largest donors include Sam Fox, who was also a major donor to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, the group behind the infamous ads attacking John Kerry’s military service in 2004. Incumbent Congressman Joe Walsh recently made controversial remarks about Duckworth’s military service at a town hall, saying “Now I’m running against a woman who, my God, that’s all she talks about. Our true heroes, it’s the last thing in the world they talk about.”

Duckworth offered Walsh a pledge several times at the start of the general election to reject Super PAC support for this election. Walsh declined to sign the pledge. Walsh has also accepted maximum contribution checks from Citizens United and Koch Industries, groups whose Super PACs have spent millions of dollars this cycle.

Courage and Common Sense

Tammy Duckworth and Senator Durbin

Tammy Duckworth has shown courage in her life and has shown common sense when it comes to dealing with the challenges that we face. She can not only help the veterans get on their feet, she can help unemployed workers as well. I am proud to endorse her.

She's the kind of person we need in Washington to make the practical decisions that will move this economy forward out of the recession, creating good paying jobs for the future. People in the 8th district will have a strong voice in Tammy Duckworth.

Senator Dick Durbin, (D-Illinois)
