Duckworth Campaign Issues Statement on Walsh Voting to Gut Medicare
Today, the U.S. Congress will be voting on Congressman Paul Ryan's budget proposal. The legislation provides massive tax cuts to the most wealthy while eliminating Medicare in its current form. Tea Party Congressman Joe Walsh has voiced his support of the Ryan budget and has voted previously in favor of similar legislation.
"How many times do you need to vote to destroy Medicare? How many times are you going to chose the interests of the most wealthy above the needs of our most vulnerable? With every vote, Joe Walsh continues to prove he is further and further out of touch with the constituents of the 8th Congressional District," said Duckworth Campaign Manager Kaitlin Fahey.
Recently, in a story published by Politico, Joe Walsh made comments about his opponent and Iraq War Veteran Tammy Duckworth. In response to the comments Fahey said, "Joe is being his usual inappropriate self. While he focuses on making disrespectful and outlandish comments in an effort to gain attention in the press, Tammy is focused on opposing initiatives to gut Medicare and meeting with residents of the 8th. Tammy Duckworth has always met her responsibilities, when she served our country in combat and when she helped returning Veterans find jobs in a tough economy. Joe Walsh has failed to meet his responsibilities time and time again. He owes an apology to Tammy Duckworth and every Veteran who has ever been injured in service to their country."
