Duckworth Hits Tea Party Stalwart Joe Walsh Over Birth Control In New Direct Mail Piece
Tammy Duckworth, Democratic candidate for Congress in Illinois’ 8th District, says incumbent Congressman Joe Walsh is wrong for saying birth control “is not about women.” Walsh made the statement to an all-male witness panel while serving on the U.S. House Committee holding hearings about birth control.
In her mail piece, which hits thousands of 8th District mailboxes this week, Duckworth says, “When Joe Walsh and the House Republicans say birth control is not about women, you know the wrong people are in charge in Washington.”
Joe Walsh, who describes himself as a warrior for the Tea Party, has made a series of extreme statements that are out of touch with the mainstream values of the District he currently represents which includes parts of Cook, Kane, and DuPage Counties.
Duckworth concludes her mail piece by declaring that “Women should make decisions about their health care, not a bunch of guys in Washington.”
The mail piece is another example of the response from Democrats across the country to the all-male panel on contraception. Earlier this week EMILY's List announced it would be launching online and cable television ads, including the Chicago market. The ad asks "Where are the women?" and encourages women to get involved in the political process and support female candidates.
Duckworth is endorsed by EMILY's List.
