Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois (AFFI) Endorses Duckworth

This morning the Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois (AFFI) announced they are endorsing Tammy Duckworth for Congress in the 8th District Democratic primary.

"AFFI, representing thousands of Illinois Fire Fighters, is proud to endorse Tammy Duckworth for Congress in the 8th District,” said AFFI President Pat Devaney. “Through her work in the Chicago area, Springfield, and Washington D.C., Tammy has proven herself to be an effective and hardworking leader. We look forward to working with her to protect our communities and ensure a quality of life for working families, fire fighters and EMS providers."

The Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois has 15,000 members in over 200 local unions throughout the state. AFFI is the state's foremost authority on, and advocate for, issues related to professional union fire fighters and EMS providers.

"I'm honored to have the support of the Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois. We will continue to work together to protect our first responders and working families," said Duckworth. “This endorsement means we continue to gain momentum and strength to take on Tea Party Congressman Joe Walsh in November.”

AFFI joins more than a dozen labor organizations who have endorsed Duckworth including UFCW, SEIU Illinois Council, and Teamsters Joint Council 25.

Courage and Common Sense

Tammy Duckworth and Senator Durbin

Tammy Duckworth has shown courage in her life and has shown common sense when it comes to dealing with the challenges that we face. She can not only help the veterans get on their feet, she can help unemployed workers as well. I am proud to endorse her.

She's the kind of person we need in Washington to make the practical decisions that will move this economy forward out of the recession, creating good paying jobs for the future. People in the 8th district will have a strong voice in Tammy Duckworth.

Senator Dick Durbin, (D-Illinois)
